The story behind my love for Trekking

Trekking - the word itself sounds quite adventurous to me. I did not have much idea about trekking even just 1.5 years back. Since my childhood, I have traveled a lot - thanks to my parents' love for travelling. We used to travel at least once a year and as for most of the middle class Bengali families, those tours was anything but adventure. Our idea of trekking was limited to Kedarnath and Gaumukh at the most. I do remember my disappointment on not being able to trek to Kedarnath due to a landslide and we had to return from Gaurikund in the year 2000.
In 2008, I suddenly realized that I am going to have week long holidays for the Durga Puja and it can be extended to 13 days by just taking off for 2 days! My dream for Kedarnath and Gaumukh reinstated and I started planning for the same. I just stumble over the Trekking and Mountaineering in India forum of Indiamike.com while googling for our trip. This was gem of a site and I kept on navigating from one thread to another of this forum and became more and more engrossed with the beauty of the unseen lands in Himalayas. I was enchanted by the descriptions in the trip reports by actual travelers and went on reading the posts from travelers and travel enthusiast from various part of the globe. This is how I came to know about the beautiful Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. I was keen on doing this trek but the season was already past for the year and I concentrated on the Gaumukh-Kedarnath Trek. By this time I was also an active members of the Trekking and Mountaineering forum and did a lot of planning for the trek and also a wish list for the future treks.
Finally, I could not go this trek as I could not manage leaves for the 2 days to make it 13 days and 9 days was not enough for the trek. We went to Arunachal Pradesh instead but that's a different story.
